GUMNAAM (1966) Billed as India's first horror film, this version of 'Ten Little Indians' is a murder mystery. I don't own a copy of this one, so if anybody out there wants to do a swap, please email me. By far my favourite dance number, and this one is destined to be covered when I finally get the band back together. So much energy, so much movement; and they're all wearing masks! The backing band is Ted Lyons and his Cubs, and Ted Lyons is fantastic, as is the female lead dancer. I love how everyone in this number is smiling all the way through. Twangy surf guitar, riffing horn section, and some serious shaking make this number really move. Added to that, the final thirty seconds just get faster and faster, making it even more energetic. Like most of the dance scenes set in clubs, the location is so good I have to wonder if it is really just a set, or does this place really exist? |
